THE PEOPLE

Dr Julia Twynholm. Clinical Psychologist

I have worked as a Psychologist for over 20 years in the NHS and privately with families and have seen the impact of modern living on young people. Covid made me realise just how much I valued being outside and it’s ability to help calm. I think it was then that my mind starting thinking about how to use my clinical skills in a new way. To help people connect with the benefits of nature whilst learning skills, in a fun and accessible way, to help them make choices that were about moving towards the things that matter to them rather then away from the things they found difficult.

Setting up Space to Be has reinvigorated my passion for health and well-being. I can see the potential of combining the research on the benefits of the outdoors with what works therapeutically to help people. I want to share my skills and this passion with you.

Dr Carly Huck, Clinical Psychologist

I’m a clinical psychologist with many years of experience working in the NHS with children, young people, and their families. More recently I have worked with teams in organisations to help improve their experience and the running of their business.

In both my professional and personal life I’ve seen the significant advantages of being outdoors and engaged in activities and in nature. Being able to connect to the outside world and nature helps us connect with ourselves, find new perspectives on things, and consider what’s important to us and what we value and care about. Additionally, just being in nature can be restorative and revitilising in itself.  I’m excited by the opportunity to use my love of the outdoors and my clinical skills in a new and meaningful way.

Developing the Space To Be programme has been exciting and rewarding as I can see the huge potential in combining proven psychological theory with the benefits of being outdoors in a fun and engaging way that makes certain concepts and skills tangible and easily transferable to day to day life.
