THE IDEA

In a fast paced and technology saturated society we are seeing a significant increase in people experiencing mental health difficulties or a decline in their wellbeing generally.

The World Health Organisation states that 1 in 7 10-19 year olds experience a mental disorder. The consequences of failing to address adolescent mental health continues into adulthood impairing physical and mental health and resulting in reduced opportunities to live a fulfilling life.

We are also seeing people spending less time outdoors or connecting with nature.

We're on a mission to change this.

Established on the basis of experience of, and research on, the positive benefits of the outdoors for mental health and wellbeing; as well as it’s ability to help engage people in talking and learning about their thoughts, feelings, and experiences, the idea of Space to Be was born.

Not only does Space to Be draw on the evidenced effect of the physiological benefits of nature in terms of stress reduction it also draws upon evidenced therapeutic approaches. As such, Space to Be has research and evidence at it’s core. It is this foundation of how to best support people to be able to respond flexibly to challenge, both internal and external that sets it apart.

Your will get to be outside, have fun, and connect. Breathe in the air, hear the sounds.

But you will also learn evidence based skills in a fun and accessible way allowing you, whether you are a young person, carer or adults, to learn new skills that you then take away to apply in your day to day lives.

We believe the outdoors is a great environment to learn in

We believe everyone can benefit from spending time outdoors and connecting with nature

We believe these skills can lead to lives of greater vitality

We believe in intervening early with young people and supporting the development of their foundation skills. Skills that will support them to live a life in keeping with their values to see them thrive, flourish and reach their potential.
